What's Cooking? - A Kitchen Makeover

Some of you may remember this post about my desire to have a white kitchen.   If you don't -- don't worry I wrote it nearly two years ago!  I've been too scared to touch our cabinets, mostly because I think we have the wrong color appliances.

But that's all about to change!  The only thing that we have done so far to the kitchen is install hardware and a new faucet, which literally just happened.  The faucet is pretty amaze-balls and I wish I had done it much sooner.  The install was pretty simple, other than we had to purchase two 12" faucet supply lines to extend the hot and cold water lines in order to hook them to the water supply. We watched this video before we started and after that it was pretty straight forward.  We are loving the way it looks.  It also narrows down our list of things to do.

I have created an inspiration board for the look we are going for...it seems like creating it on paper gets me moving every time!

Making your Bedroom your own Personal Haven

Your bedroom is your own personal haven which you need to spend some time and effort into making perfect, and this is so that it is a space in which you can completely unwind and relax. This room is possibly the most important one to you in the whole world, so this means that it needs to be somewhere you take pride in and do all you can to ensure that it looks fantastic and is a reflection of your personality. It is very easy to make a mistake when decorating and furnishing your bedroom, but with a few tips you should be able to get it just right and ensure that you will feel completely at ease whenever you are there and effortlessly be able to drift off to sleep at night.

It will depend on the size but you do not want to have too much in this room, so the furniture will include your bed, a bedside table, wardrobe, lamp, mirror and not too much else. It is wise to avoid having televisions and computers in your bedroom, as these can be distracting and lead to sleepless nights from staring at a screen for hours on end. It is also wise to not have too much clutter, as clutter can lead directly to stress which is of course the opposite of what you want to be feeling in this room, and you can avoid this by having decent storage containers set up somewhere in the bedroom.

Picking Wall Color and the Perfect Bed frame

When it comes to the walls and floor you will want it to reflect your personality without being too loud, so neutral colors are always a good choice with perhaps some of your favorite artwork on the walls, this way the room will not be too intense and distracting. The biggest and most important choice in the bedroom though will be your bed, and you will want a top quality frame which also has some style too. Oak beds are well known to be the best, and when you visit a wooden furniture specialist like Fortune Woods you will get the widest choice. Your bed frame will directly determine how good your sleep is, so be sure to pick one that is top quality, big enough and also has a headboard that suits the interior design style that you have in this room.

The Importance of a Quality and Stylish Bed Frame

The biggest and most important purchase that you make not just in terms of interior design but also overall will be your bed, as after all this is where you will spend an enormous amount of time relaxing and getting your much needed sleep. During the day you will be up and about and moving around, but once you go to bed this is where you will be for the next 8 hours or so, so you need to ensure that this bed is perfect for you and one that you love to get into each night. The right bed will allow you to easily drift off to sleep, and the wrong one will have you tossing and turning throughout the night trying to get comfortable, so it is always best to invest in quality.

Adding Style to your Bedroom

Many people will think that it is not the bed frame that is important, instead it is the mattress, duvet and pillows. These are all key parts but this is not the case, as the frame is the foundation to all of this and the size, height and structure of your frame will play an integral part in how you sleep each night. Not just this though, the bed frame that you have will be the centerpiece to your bedroom, so you will want something luxurious and stylish to make your bedroom somewhere that you take pride in. Your bedroom needs to be a reflection of your personality, and the best way to do this is through the décor and furniture, and with a quality, handcrafted bed it will really improve any room.

 Get your Own Handcrafted Bed

The best looking and most comfortable beds will be the handcrafted wooden ones, and these can come in all kinds of styles too such as four poster beds, wooden sleigh beds, traditional and plenty more styles as well. You can of course get these in all kinds of different sizes too, so you should be able to find one which is just right for your bedroom. Bed specialists, like Revival Beds, will create handmade beds to order, and this is the best way to get your very own stylish, luxurious and high quality bed made which will make an enormous improvement to your bedroom as well as how you sleep at night.

A Guide to Furniture Styles

What kind of person are you? Modern? Trendy? Traditional? Your own personality and taste will go a long way towards dictating the style of your home and the furniture within it. But for a little background information and help in defining your personal aesthetic at home, read on for a definition of the primary styles of furniture.

Traditional

You could say that nothing evokes homeliness like traditional furniture designs. With patterned fabrics and rich solid woods such as mahogany, oak and cherry, traditional furniture has a warmth and cosiness that guarantees both comfort and stylistic continuity. Traditional furniture pieces such as sofas and tables can be very sizeable though. So you'll want to ensure you don't overdo it in small spaces, or the room could become slightly crowded, stuffy or claustrophobic.

Classic

Many people would assume classic and traditional furniture to be one and the same, but they aren't. Whereas traditional furniture may be 'classic' in style, classic furniture is called so because it hails from a classic period in history. For example, some of the key periods are Victorian, Georgian, Tudor and French Provincial. Though classic furniture shares some similarities with traditional (mostly the solid woods used), the ornate decorations and even richer woods define classic furniture as a style even more luxurious than traditional pieces.

Modern

Again, you could be forgiven for thinking that 'modern' meant the same as contemporary. But in fact modern refers to most (but not all) furniture designed in Europe or The Unites States after the Second World War. Don't expect to see many curves or unusual patterns in modern furniture; simplicity, sleekness and functionality are key to this style.

Contemporary

Contemporary basically means anything that is currently in fashion today. Much like modern décor, contemporary furniture at present is very sleek, with straight, geometric lines. It prides itself on simplicity; plain glass, metal and smooth woods are essential materials that dominate contemporary styles today. Whilst you could argue that homeliness is to an extent sacrificed in contemporary furniture, many homes will address this with a good balance of both contemporary and classic designs.

Go Your Own Way

Furniture – like anything – is entirely subjective. One person's idea of stylistic nirvana may be someone else's idea of a car wreck, so there is no real right and wrong. But there are distinct styles that you can mix and match according to your own aesthetic persuasions, all of which are well-represented online at sites such as The Trade Furniture Company.
